In May 2014, the European Commission published its Strategy for Reducing Heavy Duty Vehicles¡¯ Fuel Consumption and CO2 Emissions which contains proposals for a number of short, medium and long term measures to reduce the carbon footprint of Heavy Duty Vehicles, including a proposal for a harmonised methodology to measure the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from newly type approved heavy duty vehicles in the EU. The ·¬ÇÑÊÓÆµObservations welcome the publication of this Strategy and provide general observations on this Strategy and on the different proposed measures, including the harmonised measurement system, eco-driving, energy taxation, alternative fuels and weights and dimensions. They also include a number of proposals for other measures which the European Commission Strategy does not list, such as active support for the many industry-led initiatives to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
